A Useful Guide On Great Furniture Arrangement

Good furniture arrangement adds balance and interest to a room. Although a lot of people ask professional help in arranging their furniture pieces, there are people who have learned to arrange furniture pieces by understanding these simple ideas in furniture arrangement.

*Plan on how to you intend to arrange the furniture in the room. Everything starts in planning as you will try to figure out what furniture pieces you will be using, the number of people that will be using the room and how the room will be used. Establish a focal point in the room and design your pieces of furniture around it.

*Create or draw a floor plan on a graphing paper. The floor plan should include doors, windows, electrical outlets, staircase and fireplaces. Measure the sizes of your furniture pieces and scale them down to fit into the graph paper. If possible, include colors on your layout so you can have a feel on how the colors interact throughout the room. With this floor plan, you can already picture out if the furniture pieces do not fit or the colors do not match before the moving of the actual furniture pieces. It saves you time and energy.

*The largest furniture pieces need to be arranged first as these demand more space in the room, such as a bed. You will have a hard time moving large furniture pieces if you put first the smaller pieces ahead than the larger ones. There should also be enough space for traffic paths and chairs should be close enough to promote conversation. Mix small and large pieces of furniture in the room to achieve balance.

*Mix and match colors to add visual interest in the room. As much as possible, do not place two tall furniture pieces together because you would want other people's eyes to move up and down the room. It is more pleasing to the eye if the room is balanced with the room spaces effectively used. Do not let any of the furniture pieces be placed alone in a room. You can connect furniture pieces by putting tables beside it.

*You also need take off visually the rough edges of the room. This can be done by positioning a piece of furniture across a corner rather than placing it on the wall.

*If the room has less architectural details, you can consider adding moldings to have a more visual interest.

*Do not put too much furniture pieces in a room. If there are pieces that do not fit in the room, you may want to move it to another room or better yet, sell it. It is more pleasing to the eyes if the room is not packed with furniture pieces.

*You may want to make a multipurpose room. Often times, we do not use a room for one purpose only. An example is the living room which is used to receive guests. At the same time, living rooms are also used to gather family members around and watch television. You can use furniture pieces to define different areas in a room. A sofa, for instance, can be used to separate spaces for television viewing and reading. Another great example is the placement of bookcases to divide areas.
