Six Types Of Beds

The bed is one of the must have bedroom furniture. If you come to think of it, a bedroom won't be a bedroom without the bed. It seems that when we talk about bedrooms or when we mention the word bedroom the first thing that comes to our mind is the bed. The room and bed are so intertwined to the point that it is hard to imagine one without the existence of the other. Here are some of the different types of bed you will surely find in various bedrooms.

1. Four poster bed. In the modern world we are used to seeing beds without the posts but long ago especially during the 19th century beds are made with four long posts on each side. Rich and high ranking nobles usually sleep in this type of bed. At present, we rarely see this type of bed being used and most of the time we see it in museums and other historical places. A four poster bed looks elegant but because these beds tend to be huge, it must be placed in a rather large room.

2. Canopy Bed. This is more or less similar with the four poster bed but with some distinctions; one is that the posts are higher and another is that tapestries are attached to the posts. The tapestries usually encircle the bed thus providing privacy for the occupants. Again, this type of bed was most popular years ago and is mostly used by nobles and rich people.

3. Airbed. This is a modern type of bed and is most likely invented in the 21st century. From the term itself, it is already obvious that this type of bed has to be inflated before it can be used. To inflate this type of bed, it has to be attached to an air pump which then pumps air to the inflatable mattress. This is a roll and pack type of bed which is ideal for those people who love traveling.

4. Bunk bed. You will surely find this type of bed in a children's bedroom. This type has two beds that are place atop of each other and in order to reach the top bed or top bunk a short ladder is usually attached to the frame. This bed allows two people to sleep in one room without occupying so much space making it ideal for children's bedrooms.

5. Japanese Bed. Specifically called the futon, this is the traditional bed of the Japanese people. This type of bed has no frames and the mattress is directly placed unto the floor. Western people have their own version of this type of bed but a true blue futon bed can only be found in Japan or in themed houses.

6. Daybed. For people living in small spaces especially those living in apartments, this type of bed will surely benefit them. A day bed is a bed in a couch; in other words, you can use this as a couch in the morning and a bed in the evening. A daybed will surely help solve the problem about not having enough space because having this type of bed is like owning two types of furniture in one.

There are still other types of beds but those are the most common. Remember that when picking a bed, it doesn't really matter what type it is. As long as you are comfortable with it, then you have made the right choice.
